Avalanche Awareness / Level 1 Avalanche
Description: These 1-3-day courses will involve curriculum that is based on the guidelines of the American Avalanche Association. Content will include: avalanche types and anatomy, basic slab mechanics, terrain evaluation and route selection, travel protocols, weather influences and forecasting, snowpack development, decision making, snowpits, stability tests, and companion rescue practice, among other topics and discussion.
Field days will take place in the Custer Gallatin National Forest, and the classroom/ slideshow/ lecture components will take place in Cooke City, MT.
